As you start to become more aware of your desire to become more congruent and "walk your talk", an NLP performance coach will work with you to increase your awareness of your values.
So what does this mean in practice?
Imagine that you have made a decision to live by your values. The first question to ask is "what are my values?"
Start by writing the question, "What is important to me?" on a blank sheet of paper. Make a list numbered 1 to 8 down the side and fill in the blanks. When you get stuck say "Aaaaaahhhhhh" softly out loud and continue writing. So, after completing the listing you will have 8 values that may include for example: fun, purpose, direction, passion, learning, creating, connecting, people. Now you are ready to rank them and create your hierachy of values.
The second question to ask is "which values are more important to me than others?"
Ask "is fun more important than purpose?" Go down the list until you find either that fun is most important or that something else is more important. Continue this process until you have a list ranked in order of importance, for example:
1. Learning, 2. Fun, 3. Passion, 4. Direction, 5. People, 6. Creating, 7. Connecting, 8. Purpose.
Now ask "which value or values have got to be fulfilled?" to discover which value is most important.
This will let you know the key value or values that are non-negotiable and simply have to be met. Whenever you are participating in an activity where you experience a "negative" emotion start to become curious and ask yourself "which of my values is being challenged?" and enjoy the journey towards becoming more congruent
