Increasing the Sensory Content in your Communication |

Before you prepare to make an important presentation, an NLP performance coach will work with you to increase your sensory awareness for maximum influence. So what does this mean in practice? Imagine that you are going to make a presentation. Have you noticed that in many organisations a new language springs up comprising new “words” like CPD, PLA, CLD, PoB, ROO, MBA etc. . Often the meaning of these “words” becomes lost or taken for granted. Speaking this “language” of the “natives” is very useful for pacing and you can lead to a more compelling proposal by translating into a sensory based description. For example: ”The ROI on this proposal exceeds the best in class target in our KPI monitoring system.” TRANSLATES TO: ”Imagine when we have implemented this proposal how delighted you will look when you see revenues are up by £250,000 and hear the return on investment is more than 25% and people say wow what a great decision you made, and you feel really good.” Read that again, OUT LOUD and consider which one feels more persuasive? Start to build your repertoire of sensory based language by seeing in your minds eye a movie featuring the decision makers and you, as you tell the story in your own voice, give a full sensory description and add in a soundtrack. Notice what you feel like when you get to the end of the movie and the proposal has been implemented. Practise incorporating this “translation” into your next presentation and notice the great response you get
