By asking specific questions an NLP performance coach will access the creative part of your nervous system ( N euro); to make a full and rich representation of your experience as you learn a new skill in what we call your “desired state”. Desired State is a direction that you create as a goal for your brain to move towards. So what does this mean in practice? Pick an emotion that will help you to move towards using your time more effectively e.g. enjoyment. To access this Desired State , remember a time when you enjoyed getting things done and ask yourself: “What do I see when I am enjoyably getting things done?” “What do I hear when I am enjoyably getting things done?” “What do I feel when I am enjoyably getting things done?” Become aware of as many subtle distinctions in your experience as you can. For example: When you are visualising is the picture in your mind bright or dim, colour or black and white, near or far, in focus or out of focus, movie or still? When you are composing sounds in your head or talking to yourself are the words or sounds loud or soft, is the voice tone encouraging or critical. As you are feeling sensations are they in your whole body or in part of your body. The words in bold may give you some clues as to what we have found that works well to create a motivating internal experienceSmile
